Fragrant Frangipani

Frangipani Dreaming

Frangipani Dreaming

Latest painting based on a photo in a Malaysian newspaper which caught the eye of my wife.

The original was flooded with orchids (too hard) so I thought I'd change the flowers to roses, but whoever stuck a rose behind their ear? Thorns!!!

I went with the frangipani flowers and I wanted to keep it fairly simple and not worry about too much about detail, light sources, shadows etc.

Result - Wife happy, Jim happy.

Love the composition NEW
by: Linda, Orlando FL

I am always drawn to unique compositions and yours just brings your eye through the painting. As I look at it I wonder what the flowers smell like and what is the women thinking. You drew me in!

Stunning NEW
by: Jane (from UK)

Hi Jim - this is absolutely lovely!

I think what makes it is the pale mauve background and the interesting shape of the background "negative space".

You have the knack of choosing limited palettes of complementary colours and this gives your paintings a feeling of overall coherence. Both this and the Buddha painting have a lovely sense of calm.

Have you thought of getting some prints done of this one - I'm sure they'd sell?

Happy wife, happy Jim, happy viewers!
